Reflecting the nature of our operations, at Sjóvá, we place a special emphasis on the following Sustainable Development Goals within our activities and strategic planning.
Promote healthy lives and well-being for all, from cradle to grave.
Sjóvá has long conducted strong preventive efforts for both individuals and companies. We have supported various impactful prevention initiatives aimed at preventing accidents, such as in traffic, homes, and workplaces.

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
For years, Sjóvá has been actively working to ensure gender equality and equal opportunities within the company. Our human rights policy and annual action plan provide a framework for implementing our equality policy. Sjóvá was one of the first companies in the country to achieve equal pay certification and has maintained this certification since 2014.
Sjóvá has also participated in various projects promoting equality in society, such as the FKA Equality Index, and was awarded the 2021 Equality Encouragement Award.

Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth and provide productive, dignified work opportunities for all.
We prioritize maintaining a robust and responsible operation that considers the interests of clients, employees, investors, and society as a whole.
We also strive to support our business clients, particularly in times of need, whether due to damages, operational changes, or other challenges. Furthermore, we continuously work to improve access to our services through digital solutions in sales and claims services, and we communicate about insurance in accessible terms.
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
We actively work to reduce the environmental footprint of claims, both through strong prevention measures and by minimizing damages, reusing damaged items, and repairing what we can. This way, we extend the life cycle of items and reduce waste.
We report on our sustainability metrics and initiatives in our annual and sustainability report, released in the early months of each year. All disclosures align with current laws and regulations.
We educate our clients on the benefits of sustainable claims services and provide information on steps they can take to reduce the environmental impact of claims.
We also require our suppliers to seek to reduce environmental impacts in their own operations through responsible and conscious resource use, as outlined in our Supplier Code of Conduct.
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
Sjóvá is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its operations through targeted actions and responsible resource use.
We have worked to reduce emissions in various ways, including reducing waste in claims processing, developing digital service solutions for claims inspections, electrifying our vehicle fleet, increasing the number of transportation agreements for staff, and more.
Since 2015, we have had an agreement with Kolviður for carbon sequestration through forestry to offset operational emissions, and we have also purchased carbon units from SoGreen, which focuses on emissions avoidance through educational projects for girls in Africa.
Additionally, we have supported the Icelandic Red Cross Emergency Preparedness program to improve resources for setting up mass shelters, which has become increasingly necessary in response to extreme weather and natural disasters.
