Sjóvá has donated a Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric car to the automotive technology courses at Borgarholtsskóli to support practical training and strengthen the education of future professionals in the automotive industry.
The electric car was involved in an incident where the battery was damaged. The repair costs are considerable, so the car will not return to traffic, but instead it now serves as a realistic teaching tool. The car is drivable and the wheel system is in good condition, giving students diverse opportunities for hands-on training in automotive mechanics, bodywork, and car painting.
"At Sjóvá, we want to support education and with this gift create opportunities for students to work on real projects that reflect the challenges they will face in the labor market," says Sigríður Birna Róbertsdóttir, motor vehicle claims project manager at Sjóvá.
"Donations like this are very important for education. They allow us to offer students a learning environment where they can tackle projects that mirror real-world conditions in the industry," says Ingibjörg Guðmundsdóttir, director of vocational and industrial studies at Borgarholtsskóli.
The collaboration between industry and educational institutions is an important factor in strengthening vocational training and ensuring that students acquire knowledge and experience that will serve them well in future careers.
