All foreign citizens from countries outside EU or EFTA who apply for a residence permit in Iceland, are required to obtain Medical Cost Insurance which is valid up to six months but ends when they have earned rights to be covered by the Icelandic Social Security Scheme.

Just remember that if the person you are applying for does not have an Icelandic ID number, a scanned copy of the person's passport must be added in the application. Guardians of children under the age of 18 can also apply on their behalf.
